The story of this dish
Muhammara is generally traced to the Syrian city of Aleppo; its name comes from an Arabic word meaning "reddened", a nod to its color. Over time it became part of the mezze table across a wide region, from Lebanon to southeastern Turkey.
In Turkey, especially in Gaziantep and Hatay, similar spreads are known as muhammara or acuka. On Lebanese tables it sits alongside hummus and baba ghanoush as a mezze staple.

Hummus
Very soft chickpeas whipped with tahini, lemon and garlic into a silky Levantine dip, finished with olive oil.
Tabbouleh
A bright green Lebanese salad of finely chopped parsley and mint, tomato and a little fine bulgur, dressed with lemon and olive oil.
