The story of this dish
The name şekerpare joins the Turkish şeker, "sugar", with the Persian pâre, "piece", so it literally means "a piece of sugar". It is one of the syrup-soaked pastries that came down from Ottoman cuisine.
Şekerpare is one of the sweets most often made at home for religious holidays and offered to guests. Far less work than baklava, it is a much-loved homemade dessert, and whether the center gets an almond or a hazelnut is up to each household.
