The story of this dish
Pişi takes its name from the Turkish verb "pişmek", to cook, and this fried dough is known in almost every region of Anatolia. In some places it is called "bişi", and its shape and dough vary from region to region. On bread-baking days it was a long-standing habit to set aside a little of the yeasted dough and fry it for breakfast.
Today pişi is one of the favorite treats of weekend breakfasts and the lavish Turkish breakfast spreads known as serpme kahvaltı. It is eaten plain or fried with a little cheese tucked inside.
