The story of this dish
Orman kebabı, meaning "forest kebab", is a much-loved Turkish home and restaurant dish of cubed meat cooked with plenty of vegetables. Nobody knows for certain where the name comes from; some say the colorful vegetables recall a forest garden, others that it was inspired by hunters' stews cooked over a fire.
It can be seen as a vegetable-rich cousin of tas kebabı, bringing the meat and its side dish together in one pot. Some versions add mushrooms or green beans, while the pearl onions give the dish its sweetness and its characteristic look.
