Crochet Twist Headband (Ear Warmer)

1. 1BeginningCh 18. Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each remaining ch. Turn. (16 hdc) The first 2 chains don't count; the band should be about 11 cm wide.
2. 2Ribbed textureRow 2 and all following rows: ch 2 (doesn't count), hdc BLO in each st. Turn. (16 hdc) Working in the back loop creates horizontal ridges between rows and makes the band very stretchy lengthwise.
3. 3LengthWork 50 rows in total (about 45 cm). Wrap the band around your head with a little stretch: the ends should meet comfortably at the centre of the forehead. Add or remove rows in pairs if needed. Cut the yarn leaving 40 cm.
4. 4Twist joinLay the strip flat, right side up, and bring the two short ends towards each other. Fold end A in half lengthwise (into a U shape). Fold end B in half and slide it inside A's fold so the folds interlock and the short edges stack in four layers: A, B, A, B. Pin in place and sew firmly through all four layers with the long tail.
5. 5FinishingTurn the band inside out; the seam goes to the inside and a knot-like twist appears at the front. Weave the ends into the seam. Dampen the band and dry it over a bowl to set its shape.
