Super Chunky One-Evening Cowl

1. 1Cast onUsing the long-tail method, loosely cast on 51 sts onto the 12 mm circular needle. With thick yarn, allow about 2 m for the long tail. (51 sts)
2. 2JoiningMake sure the bottom edge of every stitch faces the inside of the needle so the ring isn't twisted. Place a beginning-of-round marker and knit the first stitch to join. The stitches may feel stretched on the cable for the first rounds; this eases after a few rounds.
3. 3Seed stitchRound 1: *k1, p1* 25 times, k1. (51 sts) Round 2: *p1, k1* 25 times, p1. (51 sts) With an odd stitch count each round is the opposite of the last: purl the stitches that look like knits and knit the ones that look like purls.
4. 4BodyRepeat Rounds 1 and 2 for 28 rounds in total (about 25 cm). If yarn is running low, check before the last round that you have at least 3 times the cowl circumference left for the bind-off.
5. 5Bind offBind off very loosely in pattern as if working the next round (Round 1 order): work each stitch in pattern and pass the previous stitch over it. A tight bind-off puckers with thick yarn, so use a larger needle for it if needed.
6. 6FinishingWeave the ends in on the inside through a few stitches; with thick yarn, 3-4 stitches are enough. Soften the cowl with light steam and let it dry.
