Crochet Sponge-Filled Dish Scrubber (Metallic Lif)

1. 1Preparation and chainHold two strands of the metallic yarn together; if you are working from one ball, take one end from the centre and one from the outside. The two strands are used together as one. Ch 16, making sure both strands go into every chain.
2. 2Round 11 sc in the 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of the next 13 ch, 3 sc in the last ch. Continue along the underside of the chain: 1 sc in each of the next 13 ch, 2 sc in the chain where you made the first sc (32 sc). Place the marker in the first stitch of the round; we work in a continuous spiral without joining.
3. 3BodyRounds 2-13: 1 sc in each st (32 sc). A flat pouch forms, with 16 stitches on each side. After round 13 the pouch should be about 8 cm tall. Try the sponge inside: it should fill the pouch but sit 1 cm below the opening; add a round or two if needed.
4. 4Inserting the spongeFlatten the pouch and, if needed, work 1-2 more sc so the last stitch sits at a side edge. Put the cut sponge inside. If you prefer it without a sponge, skip this step; it becomes a thinner scrubber that dries faster.
5. 5Closing the topFlatten the opening and match the stitches of the front and back. Work 16 sc through both layers together (16 sc), taking care not to catch the sponge with the hook. The pouch is now fully closed.
6. 6Hanging loop and finishingAfter the last sc, ch 10 and sl st into the same stitch; work 12 sc into the loop and finish with a sl st. Fasten off and weave the ends through the edge stitches in two directions. Squeeze it out well after use and hang it up; when the sponge wears out, undo the closing round and replace it.
