Tap a section when you finish it.

1. 1Cast on and garter borderCast on 38 sts onto 5 mm needles. Knit every row for 6 rows of garter stitch. This border stops the cables from pulling in the cast-on edge. (38 sts)
2. 2Stitch layoutEvery row is made up of: 4 garter edge sts, 3 purl, 6 cable sts, 3 purl, 6 cable, 3 purl, 6 cable, 3 purl, 4 garter edge sts. Total: 4 + 27 + 3 + 4 = 38 sts. Place markers between sections if you like.
3. 3Cable repeat (8 rows)Row 1 (RS): k4, *p3, k6* 3 times, p3, k4. (38 sts) Row 2 (WS): k4, *k3, p6* 3 times, k3, k4. (38 sts) Rows 3-4: as Rows 1 and 2. Row 5: k4, *p3, C6B* 3 times, p3, k4. (38 sts) Row 6: as Row 2. Rows 7-8: as Rows 1 and 2.
4. 4BodyWork Rows 1-8 a total of 47 times (376 rows, about 157 cm). Reset the row counter every 8 rows; you only cross on Row 5. All cables twist the same way, so make sure the cable needle is held in back every time you work C6B.
5. 5Garter border and bind offAfter Row 8 of the last repeat, knit 6 rows of garter stitch. Bind off loosely knitwise with the RS facing. Bind-offs tend to pull in above cables; use a needle one size larger if needed.
6. 6Finishing and blockingWeave the ends into the garter borders. Soak the scarf in lukewarm water, remove excess water with a towel, lay it flat and pin it gently to 18 cm wide. Don't weigh it down or you'll flatten the cables; remove the pins once completely dry.
