Knitted Seed Stitch Coasters

Tap a section when you finish it.

1. 1Cast onCast on 21 stitches with the long-tail method (21 sts). An odd number of stitches means seed stitch is written the same way on every row.
2. 2Bottom borderRows 1-5: Knit every stitch (21 sts). The garter border stops the coaster from curling.
3. 3Seed-stitch centreRows 6-31: k3, *k1, p1* 7 times, k1, k3 (21 sts). Work every row the same. In seed stitch you purl the stitches that look like knits and knit those that look like purls; the 3 edge stitches on each side are always knitted and form the garter frame. Remember to move the yarn forward or back each time you switch between k and p.
4. 4Top borderRows 32-36: Knit every stitch (21 sts).
5. 5Bind offOn row 37, bind off knitwise. The bind-off edge should be as wide as the cast-on edge; if it pulls in, bind off with a needle one size larger. Pull the yarn through the last stitch, leaving 15 cm.
6. 6Finishing and blockingWeave the ends into the garter border. Wet the coaster, press the water out in a towel and dry it flat in a square shape; being cotton, it can be pressed under a damp cloth once dry. Make 4 the same way for a set.
