Chunky Striped Tube Scarf

1. 1Cast on and joinWith colour A, cast on 48 sts onto the 80 cm circular needle. Divide the stitches in half and pull the cable out in the middle to set up for magic loop, with 24 sts on each needle tip. Make sure the stitches aren't twisted, knit the first stitch to join, and place a beginning-of-round marker. (48 sts)
2. 2Stripe sequenceEvery round: k48. Since the tube is worked in the round, there are no purl stitches at all. Rounds 1-8: colour A. Rounds 9-16: colour B. Repeat this 16-round stripe sequence. Don't cut the old colour when switching; carry it up inside the tube. The start of the round sits at the side fold, so the small jog at colour changes is hidden.
3. 3BodyWork 33 stripes in total, starting and ending with A (17 stripes of A, 16 of B, 264 rounds, about 147 cm). Every 8 rounds, twist the carried yarn once with the working yarn so no long loops form inside. Measure the tube flat.
4. 4Three-needle bind-offCut B and continue with A. Flatten the tube so the 24 front and 24 back stitches sit parallel on the two needle tips. With the spare needle, knit the first front stitch together with the first back stitch; do the same with the second pair, then pass the first stitch on the right needle over the second. Continue until all stitches are bound off and pull the yarn through the last stitch.
5. 5Closing the cast-on endFlatten the cast-on end of the tube with the round start at the side edge. Using colour A and the yarn needle, sew the two layers together stitch by stitch. Don't pull the seam tight so the edge lies flat.
6. 6FringeCut 30 cm lengths of both colours. For each tassel fold 3 strands together and attach them to the short edge; place 8 tassels on each end, alternating colours. Trim the ends evenly.
7. 7FinishingThe carried yarns and tails all sit inside the tube, so there's barely any weaving in; just push leftover ends inside. Lay the scarf flat, steam it without touching the iron to the fabric and let it dry.
