The story of this dish
Pajeon combines "pa" (scallion) and "jeon", the family of pan-fried battered dishes; "haemul" means seafood. One of the most famous versions is Dongnae pajeon, named after the Dongnae area of Busan, which is said to have once been presented to the royal court.
In Korea, eating jeon on rainy days is a well-loved habit; popular lore says the patter of rain recalls the sizzle of batter in hot oil. It is traditionally paired with makgeolli, a light rice drink, but it is just as good with a cup of hot barley tea.
