Crochet Popcorn Stitch Cushion

1. 1Front: foundationCh 58. Row 1 (WS): 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and 1 sc in each remaining ch (57 sc). Turn. Rows 2 and 3: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), 1 sc in each st (57). Turn. Popcorns are always worked on RS rows (even-numbered rows), so they pop out towards the front.
2. 2Popcorn rowsPC-A row: Ch 1, 4 sc, *PC, 5 sc* 8 times, PC, 4 sc (57 sts, 9 PC). PC-B row: Ch 1, 7 sc, *PC, 5 sc* 7 times, PC, 7 sc (57 sts, 8 PC). Pull the yarn firmly between each PC and the following sc so the popcorn stays closed and round.
3. 3Front: patternRow 4: PC-A. Rows 5-7: 1 sc in each st (on row 5 work 1 sc in the top of each PC). Row 8: PC-B. Rows 9-11: sc. Continue this 8-row sequence: popcorn rows are A on rows 4, 12, 20 ... 60 and B on rows 8, 16 ... 56 (15 popcorn rows). Work rows 61-63 in sc (63 rows, 57 sts).
4. 4BackCh 58, start as for row 1 and work 1 sc in each st for 63 rows (57 sc). The back should be the same size as the front (about 40 x 40 cm).
5. 5JoiningWeave in the ends. Place the two pieces WS together with the front facing you. Starting at a corner, join with sc through the edge stitches of both pieces, working 3 sc in each corner. After joining three sides, insert the cushion and close the fourth side.
6. 6FinishingJoin the round with a sl st and cut the yarn. Pull the tail into the cushion with the yarn needle and trim. Shape the popcorns by pushing them outwards with your fingers.
