Knitted Plant Pot Cover

Tap a section when you finish it.

1. 1Cast on and rim ribCast on 80 sts onto the 4.5 mm circular needle, join in the round without twisting and place a start-of-round marker. Rounds 1-4: *k2, p2* 20 times. The rib keeps the cover from slipping down the rim of the pot (80 sts).
2. 2Welted bodyKnit 4 rounds, then purl 2 rounds. Work this 6-round repeat 4 times (24 rounds). The purl rounds form raised horizontal ridges on the RS (80 sts).
3. 3Before the baseKnit 2 more rounds. The cover should measure about 12.5 cm from the cast-on; if your pot is taller, add plain rounds here. Place a marker every 10 sts (8 sections).
4. 4Base decreasesRound 1: *k8, k2tog* 8 times (72). Round 2: k. Round 3: *k7, k2tog* (64). Round 4: k. Round 5: *k6, k2tog* (56). Round 6: k. Round 7: *k5, k2tog* (48). Round 8: k. Round 9: *k4, k2tog* (40). Round 10: *k3, k2tog* (32). Round 11: *k2, k2tog* (24). Round 12: *k1, k2tog* (16). Round 13: *k2tog* (8 sts). Switch to double-pointed needles when the stitches no longer fit on the circular needle.
5. 5ClosingCut the yarn leaving 20 cm, thread it through the remaining 8 sts with the yarn needle and pull tight. Take the tail to the inside of the base and secure it over a few stitches.
6. 6FinishingWeave in the end at the rim too. Dampen the cover and let it dry on the pot so it takes on its shape. Use a saucer under the pot so the cover does not get wet when you water the plant.
