Knitted Sofa Arm Caddy with Remote Pockets

1. 1Cast on and garter edgeCast on 45 sts on 5 mm needles. Rows 1-6: Knit all sts. This edge will be the bottom of the pocket end (45 sts).
2. 2Broken rib bodyRS row: k3, k1, *p1, k1* 19 times, k3. WS row: k3, p39, k3. Repeat these two rows for 170 rows. The 3 knit sts at each side form a garter strip that stops curling; the broken rib in the middle looks like fine vertical lines (45 sts).
3. 3Top garter edgeKnit all sts for 6 rows and bind off loosely. You should have 182 rows in total; the piece measures about 25 x 70 cm.
4. 4Pocket pieceCast on 41 sts. Rows 1-4: Knit. Rows 5-32: Stockinette; RS rows k41, WS rows k2, p37, k2. Rows 33-36: Knit. Bind off. The pocket piece should measure about 23 x 14 cm.
5. 5Sewing on the pocketLay the arm caddy RS up. Center the pocket piece on the cast-on end, with its bottom edge just above the garter edge and 2 sts of space on each side, and pin it. Sew both sides and the bottom of the pocket with small, close stitches using the yarn needle; leave the top edge open.
6. 6Dividing the pocketSew a vertical line from bottom to top through the exact center of the pocket piece (in line with the 21st st) to divide it into two compartments. Each is about 11 cm wide, ideal for a remote and a phone.
7. 7FinishingWeave the ends into the seams and garter edges. Dampen the caddy and dry it flat. Drape it over the sofa arm with the pocket end hanging on the outside; if it slides, put a non-slip liner underneath.
