Instructions

Tap a section when you finish it.

1. 1Foundation chainCh 21. Lay the chain flat without twisting; the rug's length comes from this chain. It should measure about 31 cm.
2. 2Round 13 sc in the 2nd ch from hook (end A), 1 sc in each of next 18 ch, 3 sc in the last ch (end B). Rotate to work along the other side of the chain, 1 sc in each of next 18 ch, and join with sl st to the first sc (42 sc: 3 at each end, 18 along each straight side).
3. 3Rounds 2 and 3Start every round with ch 1 (does not count as a st) and join with sl st to the first sc. Rounds always begin at end A. Round 2: *inc 3 times (end), 18 sc (straight side)* twice (48 sc). Round 3: *(1 sc, inc) 3 times, 18 sc* twice (54 sc). Placing a marker at the start of each end section makes the increases easy to find.
4. 4Rounds 4-16Rule: on round N work *(N-2 sc, inc) 3 times, 18 sc* twice. The straight sides always stay at 18 sts and each end grows by 3 sts per round, so every round adds 6 sts. Round 4: 60, round 5: 66, round 6: 72 ... round 10: 96 ... round 16: 132 sc. On even rounds move the increases to the middle of the repeat at the ends (e.g. on round 6 work 2 sc, inc, 2 sc) so the ends stay round instead of pointed.
5. 5EdgingRound 17: Work 1 sl st in each st (132 sts). The slip stitch round finishes the edge with a neat, firm line.
6. 6FinishingCut the yarn, pull it through the last loop and weave the tail through several rounds on the back of the rug. For slippery floors, place a non-slip underlay cut to size under the rug or tack it on at a few points.
