Crochet Cotton Baby Bib

1. 1FoundationCh 31. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (30 sc). Every row starts with ch 1 (does not count) and you turn at the end.
2. 2Lower cornersRow 2: 2 sc in first st, sc to last st, 2 sc in last st (32). Row 3: as row 2 (34). These increases soften the lower corners.
3. 3BodyRows 4-25: sc in each st (34). The bib body measures about 14 cm. Cotton has no stretch, so take care not to skip the last stitch of each row.
4. 4First strapRow 26: sc 10, turn (leave the remaining 24 sts unworked). Rows 27-30: decrease 1 st at the neck edge on every row with sc2tog (6). Rows 31-40: sc 6. Fasten off.
5. 5Second strap and buttonholeLeave the center 14 sts of row 26 unworked for the neck and join yarn in st 25: ch 1, sc 10 (to the end of the row). Over the next 4 rows decrease 1 st at the neck edge on each row (6). Work 10 rows of sc 6. Buttonhole row: sc 2, ch 2, skip 2, sc 2. Last row: sc 2, 2 sc in ch-2 space, sc 2 (6). This strap is longer than the other and overlaps on top behind the neck.
6. 6EdgingJoin yarn at a lower corner. Sc around the entire bib (lower edge, sides, straps and neckline): 1 sc per row end, 3 sc in corners; join with sl st. Round 2: rev sc in each st; join with sl st. The crab-stitch edge stops the bib from curling.
7. 7Closure and finishingWeave in the ends. Sew the button, or one half of the snap, 1 cm in from the end of the short strap, lined up with the buttonhole, using doubled strong thread and passing through 6-8 times; if using a snap, sew the other half where the buttonhole is. Wash the bib and dry flat; cotton may shrink a little in the first wash.
