1. 1Ribbed edgeCast on 62/68/74 sts (one edge stitch on each side is the seam allowance). Every row: k1, *k1, p1* to last st, k1. Work until the rib measures 3 cm, ending with a WS row.
2. 2BodyChange to stockinette: RS knit all; WS k1, purl to last st, k1. Continue until the hat measures 7/8.5/10 cm from the cast-on edge, ending with a WS row.
3. 3Crown decreasesDecrease row 1 (RS): k1, *k8/9/10, k2tog* 6 times, k1 (56/62/68 sts). WS rows: k1, purl, k1. On each following RS row, knit one stitch fewer before each k2tog: *k7/8/9, k2tog*, then *k6/7/8, k2tog*, and so on. Last decrease row: k1, *k2tog* 6 times, k1 (8 sts). You work 9/10/11 decrease rows in total.
4. 4Closing and seamingCut the yarn leaving 40 cm, thread it through the remaining 8 sts with a yarn needle, slip them off and pull tight. With the same yarn and RS facing, sew the hat from crown to rib with mattress stitch through the edge stitches.
5. 5EarsFor each ear cast on 10 sts. Rows 1-8: knit (garter). Row 9: k1, ssk, k4, k2tog, k1 (8 sts). Row 10: knit. Row 11: k1, ssk, k2, k2tog, k1 (6 sts). Row 12: knit. Bind off, leaving a 30 cm tail. Make two ears.
6. 6Attaching the earsLay the hat flat with the seam at the back. Place the ears symmetrically just below the row where the crown decreases began, 4-5 cm from the center, and pin. Keeping the cast-on edge slightly curved, sew each ear along its entire lower edge and at both corners with close stitches; the ear should not move when tugged.
7. 7FinishingWeave all ends in on the inside, and secure the ear seams by knotting on the wrong side and passing the ends through several stitches. Dampen the hat and let it dry over a round bowl.
