3. 3Ears (make 2)Work a flat circle in grey; with 6 increases per round the piece stays flat. 5. 5Legs (make 4) and tailLegs: Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6) Rnd 2: inc x 6 (12) Rnd 3: BLO 12 sc (12) Rnds 4-9: 12 sc (12) Stuff and leave a long tail. The back loop round forms a flat sole. Tail: ch 10, starting in the 2nd ch from hook work 9 sl st; tie 3 short strands to the end for a tassel (skip the tassel on a baby toy).
6. 6Face and assemblySew the trunk to the center of the face with its wide end covering the magic ring; it may curve slightly down and to one side. Place the eyes 2 rounds above the top edge of the trunk with 8 stitches between them (insert safety eyes before the head is closed, after round 19). Sew the ears to both sides of the head along a vertical line between rounds 9 and 12, slightly cupped forward. Sew the body to the underside of the head; sew the front legs to the upper front of the body and the back legs to the lower part in a sitting position, and the tail to the back.
7. 7FinishingFor a child under 3, embroider the eyes with black yarn as ovals two rounds high. Weave all yarn ends through the body. Press the ears lightly with a damp cloth to flatten them and let dry.
