Knitted Fingerless Gloves with Thumb Gusset

1. 1Cuff ribbingCast on 40 (44) sts, divide over 4 needles, join without twisting and mark the beginning of the round with the odd-colored marker. Work *k2, p2* rib for 20 rounds (about 6.5 cm). Then knit 6 rounds.
2. 2Thumb gusset setupSetup round: pm, k1, pm, knit to end of round. The single stitch between the markers is the base of the thumb gusset. On both gloves the thumb sits at the beginning of the round, at the side of the hand, so the two gloves are worked the same.
3. 3Thumb gusset increasesIncrease round: sm, M1L, knit to second marker, M1R, sm, knit to end (2 sts increased). Then knit 2 rounds. Repeat these three rounds 6 (7) times in total. There are 13 (15) sts between the markers and 52 (58) sts in total.
4. 4Separating the thumbOn the next round remove the markers and place the 13 (15) gusset stitches on waste yarn. Cast on 1 st over the gap (with a backward loop) and knit to the end of the round: 40 (44) sts.
5. 5Hand and top ribbingKnit 8 (10) rounds; the glove should reach close to the base of your fingers. Then work *k2, p2* rib for 6 rounds and bind off loosely in pattern (knitting the knits and purling the purls).
6. 6ThumbPlace the 13 (15) held stitches on three needles. Join yarn and knit them, then pick up 3 sts from the gap on the hand side: 16 (18) sts. Work *k1, p1* rib for 5 rounds and bind off loosely in pattern.
7. 7FinishingClose any small gaps at the base of the thumb with the yarn tail and weave in ends on the inside. Knit the second glove the same way. Dampen the gloves with lukewarm water and dry them flat on a towel.
